A scanner pulls a fault code out of a control module. That code names a circuit and a symptom, nothing more. P0171 does not mean a faulty sensor, it means the engine is running lean, and the cause might be a split hose, a tired pump, a leaking gasket or a sensor that is reporting perfectly well about a real problem somewhere else.
That gap between the code and the cause is where money disappears. Fitting the part, the code appears to name clears the light for a fortnight, then it returns and the bill starts again. We treat the scan as the first five minutes of the job rather than the whole of it, and nothing is replaced here until a test has proved it faulty.
We diagnose all makes and models, cars and light commercials, and we are VAG specialists for Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and SEAT.
Modern cars carry dozens of control modules and a generic scanner reads only a handful. A full scan interrogates every module on the car, so a fault stored in the gearbox, ABS or body control unit is not missed because the reader stopped at the engine.
- All module fault code read and report
- Manufacturer specific codes, not generic equivalents
- Stored, pending and historic fault data
- Freeze frame data showing conditions when the fault occurred
The single most common reason drivers book a diagnostic. The light means a monitored system has fallen outside its limits, and the job is to work out which and why before it damages something expensive.
- Engine management and emissions fault investigation
- Misfire, fueling and ignition faults
- Turbo, boost and air leak testing
- Limp mode and power loss diagnosis
Plenty of faults look perfect at idle on a ramp. Live data recorded while the car is driven shows what the sensors report under load, under braking and at temperature, which is where most real faults reveal themselves.
- Live sensor data recorded under load
- Fault reproduced on the road rather than described
- Actuator testing and component activation
- Before and after comparison once repaired
The faults other workshops give up on. Something that only happens when it rains, only when cold, only after forty minutes or only over a particular bump. These take patience and method rather than a bigger scanner.
- Fault logging over extended periods
- Circuit, voltage drop and earth testing
- Wiring and connector inspection under movement
- Parasitic battery drain investigation
Emissions faults rarely announce themselves until the car drops into limp mode. Finding the cause matters, because a blocked filter is often a symptom of something upstream. Repairs are handled in the same workshop by our DPF and AdBlue service.
- DPF blockage and regeneration failure diagnosis
- EGR, lambda and MAF sensor testing
- AdBlue system fault investigation
- Exhaust and catalytic converter testing
Where a diagnosis lands on a circuit rather than a component, it moves straight into fault tracing. Our auto electrical repairs service covers the repair side, from wiring and earths to control module coding.
- Circuit and continuity testing
- Corroded connector and earth fault tracing
- Charging, starting and battery drain faults
- Control module communication faults

Describe The Symptom
Call, WhatsApp or email with the make, model and what the car is doing. When it happens matters as much as what happens. Cold, hot, wet, braking, turning, over bumps, only after a long run.
Scan And Inspect
A full multi module scan plus a physical inspection on the ramp. Codes, freeze frame data and fault history are read together, because the order faults were stored in often points straight at the cause.
Test And Confirm
Live data, circuit testing and a road test where the fault needs one. This is the part that separates a diagnosis from a guess, and it is where the diagnostic hour is actually spent.
Report, Quote And Your Approval
You get a plain explanation of what has failed, what fixing it involves and what it costs in parts and labour. Nothing is ordered and no repair starts until you say yes.
