Auto Electrical Repairs Services

READ THE CODE. THEN FIND THE CAUSE.

Auto electrical diagnosis and repair at our Dublin 22 workshop, using dealer level equipment and live data testing. Non start faults, battery drains, charging problems, wiring damage, warning lights and control module coding. We test the component before we replace it, so you pay to fix the fault rather than to rule things out.

Electrical Faults Traced To The Cause, Not Guessed At

A fault code tells you which circuit is unhappy. It does not tell you why, and that difference is where most electrical bills go wrong. A code pointing at a sensor is often caused by a chafed wire, a corroded earth or a connector full of water three feet away from the part that gets replaced. Fitting the part clears the code for a week, then the light comes back and the money is gone.

SmartAuto works the other way round. The scan is the starting point, then we test circuits, voltages and live data until the actual cause is in front of us. Control units and sensors are expensive, and nothing gets fitted here until it has failed a test.

Auto Electrical Services We Carry Out

Vehicle Diagnostics And Fault Code Investigation

Every electrical job starts here. A full system scan reads every module rather than the engine alone, and live data shows us what the sensors are actually reporting while the car runs.

- Full multi module diagnostic scan
- Live data and actuator testing
- Intermittent fault investigation
- Written explanation of what the codes mean

Battery, Alternator And Charging System Faults

A car that needs a jump start every cold morning has a charging problem, a battery at the end of its life, or something draining it overnight. Testing tells them apart in minutes.

- Battery load and condition testing
- Alternator output and regulator testing
- Charging warning light diagnosis
- Battery registration and coding on newer vehicles

Starter Motor Repairs And Non Start Faults

A single click, a whirring noise or a dashboard that dies when you turn the key all mean different things. We work back through the starting circuit rather than fitting a starter and hoping.

- Starter motor testing and replacement
- Starting circuit, relay and solenoid faults
- Ignition switch problems
- Crank but no start investigation

Battery Drain And Parasitic Draw Testing

Something staying awake after you lock the car will flatten a good battery in a couple of days. Finding it means measuring the draw and isolating circuits one at a time, which is slow work and the reason most garages avoid it.

- Parasitic draw measurement
- Module by module circuit isolation
- Faulty relay, alarm and aftermarket fitment faults
- Repair and retest over a full sleep cycle

Wiring, Loom And Earth Fault Repairs

Most wiring faults are damage rather than design. Chafing behind a door hinge, corrosion in a connector, rodent damage or a bad earth strap. Nearly all of them can be repaired properly without replacing a whole loom.

- Broken and chafed wiring repair
- Corroded connector and earth point repair
- Door and tailgate loom faults
- Aftermarket wiring and tow bar electrics

Engine Management, Sensor And Emissions Faults

Engine lights are the most common reason drivers book in, and the cause is as often electrical as mechanical. Where the fault turns out to be a blocked filter or an EGR problem, our DPF and AdBlue service picks it up in the same workshop.

- Engine management light diagnosis
- Sensor, wiring and connector testing
- Lambda, MAF and EGR related faults
- Limp mode and power loss investigation

Electrical Symptoms We Trace Every Week

Electrical faults rarely fix themselves and they usually get worse in cold or wet weather. If any of these sound familiar, book a diagnostic before it becomes a recovery call.

01

The Car Will Not Start Or Just Clicks

A rapid clicking normally means not enough current, which points at the battery or its connections. One solid click usually points at the starter or its solenoid. Silence points somewhere else again.

02

The Battery Goes Flat When The Car Is Parked

Classic parasitic drain. A module that will not shut down, a sticking relay, a boot light, an alarm or a badly fitted accessory. The battery is the victim, not the cause, which is why a new one lasts a fortnight.

03

Battery Warning Light On Or Headlights Dimming

Almost always the charging system rather than the battery. An alternator, a regulator or a slipping belt failing to keep up with demand.

04

Engine Management Light On But The Car Drives Normally

Very common, and worth acting on. Emissions and sensor faults often cause no symptom at first while quietly damaging parts that cost far more than the original repair.

05

Airbag Or ABS Light Staying On

Both will fail a test and both mean a safety system is disabled. Airbag faults are frequently caused by a connector under a seat, which is a cheap fix once it is found.

06

Electrics Cutting Out Or Working Only Sometimes

Intermittent faults are wiring faults until proven otherwise. Corrosion, a loose earth or a chafed wire that only shorts when the car flexes over a bump.

How An Electrical Repair Works, Stage By Stage?

Stage 01

Tell Us When The Fault Happens
Call, WhatsApp or email with the make, model and what the car does. Cold starts, wet weather, after a wash, only at night, only over bumps. Intermittent faults are found far faster when we know when to look for them.

Stage 02

Scan, Test And Trace
A full system scan first, then circuit testing, voltage drop checks and live data with the fault reproduced where possible. We are looking for the cause of the code, not just the code.

Stage 03

Quote And Your Approval
You get a plain explanation of what has failed, what the repair involves and what it costs in parts and labour. Nothing is ordered and no work begins until you approve it.

Stage 04
Repair, Retest And Hand Back We carry out the repair, clear and recheck the fault memory, road test the car and confirm the system is reporting correctly before the keys come back to you.

Auto Electrical Repair FAQs

Need a quick answer about your vehicle? Call the garage and speak directly with the team.
How much does an auto electrical diagnostic cost?
Diagnosis is charged by time on the equipment rather than by the fault, because a straightforward code takes minutes and an intermittent wiring fault can take hours. CONFIRM: state your diagnostic rate and whether it is credited against the repair.
Testing answers it in minutes. Rapid clicking usually means low current from the battery or its connections, one solid click points at the starter or solenoid, and no response at all points at the ignition circuit or an immobiliser fault.
Something is still drawing current after you lock up. Finding it means measuring the draw and isolating circuits one by one, which is why a replacement battery on its own never solves it.
Yes. Plenty of electrical faults never light the dash, and many store data even when they do not. Live testing with the fault reproduced finds what a scan alone will miss.

Yes. A replacement control unit has to be coded and adapted to the car, and retrofitted modules need parameters set before they work correctly.
