Almost all of what you pay for a clutch is the work of separating the engine and gearbox, supporting both, and putting the car back together. The friction plate itself is one of the cheaper parts in the box. That single fact should decide how the job is done.
A clutch fitted on its own, with a tired dual mass flywheel and an original release bearing left in place, is the most expensive saving in motoring. When the flywheel starts juddering eight months later, the gearbox comes out again and you pay the entire labour bill for a second time.
The full kit rather than the friction plate alone. Pressure plate, driven plate and release bearing are replaced together, with the spline and input shaft checked and greased correctly on reassembly.
- Complete clutch kit replacement
- Release bearing and fork inspection
- Input shaft, spline and seal checks
- Clutch pedal travel and adjustment set up
A dual mass flywheel has springs and a damper inside it, and it wears like any other moving part. It cannot be machined or skimmed back to health, so once free play or heat damage is outside limits it has to be replaced.
- Free play, rock and heat damage measurement
- Manufacturer specification replacement units
- Ring gear and starter engagement inspection
- Correct torque and angle on flywheel bolts
For some vehicles a solid flywheel conversion is a sensible and longer lasting option, particularly on high mileage and hard working cars. It is not right for every model, and we will tell you which category yours falls into.
- Suitability assessment for your engine and gearbox
- Conversion kit supply and fitment
- Honest explanation of the noise and vibration trade off
- Priced alongside the dual mass option
On many modern cars the slave cylinder sits inside the bellhousing. If it fails after a clutch job, the gearbox comes out again for a part that costs very little, which is why it is replaced as standard here.
- Concentric slave cylinder replaced with the clutch
- Hydraulic line and connector inspection
- System bleeding and pedal feel testing
- Leak check under load before handover
Not every clutch problem is the clutch. A pedal that sinks, feels spongy or will not select gear is often hydraulic, and that is a far smaller job than a replacement.
- Master and slave cylinder testing and replacement
- Hydraulic fluid and line replacement
- Air ingress and bleeding faults
- Pedal assembly and linkage repair
Judder, a rising bite point and slipping under load all have different causes, and some of them are not the clutch at all. Our car diagnostics service rules out engine and gearbox faults before anything is stripped.
- Road test under load and on hills
- Slip testing and bite point assessment
- Engine, mount and gearbox fault exclusion
- Clear explanation before any quote

Road Test And Diagnosis
We drive the car and test the clutch under load before touching anything, because slip, judder and selection problems have different causes and some of them are cheaper than a clutch.
Gearbox Out And Inspection
The gearbox comes out and the assembly is inspected properly. Flywheel measured, plate thickness checked, bearing, seals and bellhousing examined for oil contamination.
Quote Confirmation And Your Approval
The quote is confirmed against what has actually been found. If a component is still within specification we tell you and it stays. Nothing extra is fitted without your say so.
Fit, Refill And Bed In
New assembly fitted to torque, gearbox oil replaced, hydraulics bled and the car road tested. You get the bedding in advice at handover, because the first few hundred kilometres set how the clutch behaves for the rest of its life.
