Mechanical Repairs Service in Dublin

FIND THE FAULT. FIX THE PROBLEM.
Mechanical repairs carried out by experienced technicians at our Dublin 22 workshop using manufacturer level diagnostic equipment. Engine faults, clutch and gearbox trouble, brakes, suspension, cooling and timing systems. We find the cause, tell you what it will cost, and only then pick up the tools.

Car Mechanical Repairs | Handled Under One Roof

We repair cars, vans and light commercials of every make, and we are known across Dublin as a VAG specialist for Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and SEAT. That specialism shows up on the invoice. A technician who works on the same engine families every week finds a fault faster than one meeting it for the first time, and diagnostic hours are what make repairs expensive.

A lot of the work that reaches our ramps has already been somewhere else. A warning light that keeps coming back, a noise nobody could pin down, a repair that did not hold. We start from diagnosis rather than assumption, because swapping parts until the symptom disappears is the most expensive way to fix a car.

Mechanical Repair Services We Carry Out

Engine Repairs and Engine Rebuilds

Rough running, oil loss, overheating and knocking noises all point back to the engine, and each one has several possible causes. We diagnose first, then repair or rebuild depending on what the engine is worth saving. Our engine rebuild service covers the full strip, measure and reassembly process.

- Engine fault diagnosis and compression testing
- Oil leaks, oil consumption and overheating faults
- Head gasket and cylinder head work
- Full engine rebuilds using quality components

Clutch Replacement and Gearbox Repairs

A slipping clutch or a gearbox that fights you into gear rarely improves on its own, and driving on it usually damages something more expensive. We inspect the whole driveline before quoting, so you are not paying for a clutch when the fault sits in the dual mass flywheel. See our dedicated clutch replacement page for what the job involves.

- Clutch inspection, replacement and bleeding
- Dual mass flywheel checks
- Manual gearbox fault diagnosis
- Gear selection and linkage problems

Timing Belt and Timing Chain Replacement

A snapped timing belt writes off an engine, which is why manufacturers set replacement intervals by both age and mileage. If yours is due or the history is unknown, book it in. Our timing belt and chain service covers belts, chains, tensioners and water pumps together, because doing them separately costs twice the labor.

- Timing belt replacement to manufacturer interval
- Timing chain, guide and tensioner inspection
- Water pump replacement with the belt kit
- Rattle on startup investigated

Brake Repairs, Pads and Discs

Brakes are the one system where waiting is never the cheaper option. We inspect pads, discs, calipers, lines and fluid together, then tell you what needs doing now and what can safely wait until the next visit.

- Brake pad and disc replacement
- Caliper repair and replacement
- Brake fluid change and system bleeding
- Handbrake adjustment and ABS fault diagnosis

Suspension and Steering Repairs

Knocks over potholes, a car that wanders, uneven tyre wear and a steering wheel off center all trace back to worn suspension or steering components. These are also among the most common reasons cars fail a test in Ireland.

- Shock absorber and spring replacement
- Bushes, ball joints and drop links
- Track rod ends and steering rack faults
- Wheel alignment after repair

Cooling System, Radiator and Exhaust Repairs

Cooling faults turn into engine failures quickly, and exhaust faults quietly cost you fuel and emissions performance. Both are worth catching early.

- Radiator, hose and coolant leak repairs
- Thermostat and water pump replacement
- Overheating diagnosis
- Exhaust, catalytic converter and lambda sensor repairs

Symptoms We Diagnose Every Week

Your car usually warns you before it strands you. If you recognise any of the following, an inspection now is cheaper than a recovery truck later.
01

Grinding or Squealing When You Brake

Normally worn pads, scored discs or a sticking caliper. Once grinding starts, the discs are usually being damaged with every stop.

02

Clutch Slipping or Biting Near the Top of the Pedal

Revs rising without matching speed, or a bite point that has crept upwards, points to a worn clutch. Left alone it takes the flywheel with it.

03

Loss of Power or The Car Dropping into Limp Mode

Common on turbo diesels and usually traced to a blocked DPF, a boost leak, a faulty sensor or an EGR fault. The car protects itself by cutting power.

04

Rattle or Knock From The Engine

A rattle on cold start often means a timing chain, tensioner or low oil pressure. A deeper knock under load is more serious and should be inspected before you drive further.

05

Temperature Gauge Climbing or Coolant Disappearing

Usually a coolant leak, a failed thermostat, a tired water pump or a head gasket beginning to go. Overheating damage happens in minutes, not days.

06

Engine Management Light On hte Dash

An amber light means get it checked, a flashing light means stop driving. Either way the stored fault codes tell us where to look, and a scan takes minutes.

How A Repair Works at Smart Auto, Stage by Stage?

Stage 01

Book in and Describe the Fault
Call, WhatsApp or email us with the symptom, the make and model, and when it happens. Cold, hot, braking, turning, over bumps. That detail shortens the diagnosis and reduces what you pay for it.

Stage 02

Inspect and Diagnose
The car goes on the ramp for a physical inspection and onto the diagnostic equipment for a full system scan and live data. We are looking for the cause, not the symptom.

Stage 03

Quote and Your Approval
You get a clear explanation of what has failed, what it takes to fix it, and what it costs in parts and labour. Nothing is ordered and no spanner is lifted until you say yes.

Stage 04

Repair, Road Test and Hand Back
We carry out the repair, road test the car and recheck the system before handing the keys back, along with the old parts if you want to see them.

Mechanical Repair FAQs

Need a quick answer about your vehicle? Call the garage and speak directly with the team.
How much do mechanical repairs cost in Dublin?
It depends entirely on the fault, the parts and the labour hours involved, and any garage quoting before it has seen the car is guessing. We diagnose first, then give you a firm price in parts and labour before starting.
Diagnosis is skilled work on expensive equipment, so it is charged as a separate item. CONFIRM: state your diagnostic charge and whether it is credited against the repair when you carry out the work.
Routine jobs such as brakes or a service are usually same day. Clutches, timing belts and engine work take longer, and parts availability affects it. We give you a realistic timeframe with the quote.
We repair all makes and models. VAG cars are our specialism, not our limit.
Both, and the choice is yours. We will explain where a quality aftermarket part is the sensible saving and where a genuine part is worth paying for, then quote accordingly.
